Jaded, grumpy and easily annoyed. Other than that, not too bad. Serial incompletist. But enough about my scintillating personality.
I've been a Tolkien fan for over 30 years. Fan as in the old sense of the word; fanatic. I can discuss the hair colours of Finwe's offspring the way normal people discuss their favourite sports team. It's embarrassing. People avoid me at parties.
I started writing Tolkien fan fiction in 2002 after getting involved with a crazy bunch of women who called themselves the Elf Huntresses. It sounds like a complete trainwreck, but these ladies never took themselves seriously. Their creativity and sense of fun were a true inspiration for me.
The rare stories that I've finished tend to be action/adventure/humour. Most involve original characters. If anyone has insomnia they are posted at Stories of Arda, Open Scrolls Archive and Fan Fiction (as Lalaeth). There are a few others at Quills and Ink, a few more hiding on LiveJournal and quite a few more that have since vanished into the ether. I'm like a demented literally squirrel hiding stories all over the Net.
I get a lot of comic suggestions from my husband -- usually at midnight when I'm trying to sleep. Two hours later, I'm still giggling and he's fast asleep. Anything that looks very strange and surreal in my writing was probably his idea. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
My other hobbies are gardening, (which can only be done five months a year. unless you count growing snowbanks as gardening) needleworking and music. I participate in a Celtic slow jam (although if they're playing slowly I'd hate to try to play fast) where I play the flute. It was there that I learned that most fiddle players can't count to four. I also learned to have a very fine appreciation for a good rhythm section.
