Hi! I was a member here for a couple of months in 2007, before the monster that is real life rather sucked me in. Some of you may remember me, and me mentioning that I got a one-year lab-based internship with a Big Bad Pharma Giant - it was a good experience, full of ups and downs, and is pretty much the reason why I fell out of fandom for a whole year! I can safely say that my brain atrophied during that one year. (I did meet lots of wonderful people, get paid, and get some heavy duty anti-viral meds out of it, though!)
But I hope to get back into the swing of writing and reading again, since I haven't done any of the former (outside of uni coursework) since I was last on this forum.
I'm a 22 year old student, currently in my final year of my undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences. Presently I'm living in Manchester, UK, but I'll probably be moving back to my home country of Singapore when I graduate this summer. (Boo!)
I first got into fanfiction in 1998, when I was trying to look for the Animorphs books online. I was in a few fandoms, but since 2000 I've settled into Tolkien and Harry Potter, with the occasional foray into original fiction.
I love reading 'general fiction' (i.e. non-pairing focussed) stuff, and have always a soft spot for the Nolofinweans of the Silmarillion. Right now I've signed up for a few challenges - writing a 20,000 words Marauders-centric HP story, for one! - plus another Silmficcy challenge, and something else for original fiction. I'm also putting together a Harry Potter fanzine with a group of other people, in honour of Harry's 50th birthday this year, which I'm very excited about. I have no idea how I'm going to manage all of it, though. (I haven't even mentioned my final year lab project and the associated 20-page-report!)
Otherwise, I like to spend my time watching TNG, Voyager and DS9 re-runs on one of the local cable channels. ;D Book-wise, I've also been enjoying The Southern Vampire Mysteries, although I've not seen the TV show yet.
