Membership in the Writer's Workshop at GoI is free. All we ask is that you post an introductory message in "Just Arrived" and that you participate. YOU MUST BE WILLING AND ABLE TO PARTICIPATE ON A REGULAR BASIS ON THIS FORUM. We do not allow readers or lurkers here.
We encourage and have quite a lot of chit-chat, venting and other friendly posting areas. Our strong sense of camaraderie is what holds us together some days!
But what is "Participation"?
This is a working writer's board. Participation mean you are expected to post works here for beta and con crit, and, additionally, you are also expected to give beta and concrit.
When you sign up you will receive an email to activate your account, once you reply to that email, you will still have to wait for a moderator to complete your activation.
The email will ask the following:
1) Have you read the Membership board at GoI?
2) How did you find GoI?
3) Where are your works posted (and links to your works)
4) What is your interest in joining the forum?
After you respond to this, we will check out your writing, making sure it conforms to the guidelines here and, if so, activate your account.
Once activated, please fill out your members information as throughly as possible. Gentlemen are welcome and encouraged to join, but we all like to know who to address as he or she, so please fill out the gender question.
After filling out your profile, please post a message in the Just Arrived thread, or respond to messages posted welcoming you. Most of us will know someone new is joining and likely post a thread for you first. Members that join and do not post an intro or begin participating within two days, will be deleted. These members are free to rejoin at any time, provided that they post in "Just Arrived" within the allotted time frame.
We hope that you will feel comfortable here and participate in WIP and Daily 100 as soon as you feel ready. You must maintain a board in one of these areas to retain membership. You may request a board in these areas from any of the mods (LadyA, Sulriel or Gwynnyd) by PM at any time. Please be aware that this is a working writers board and the object is to improve our skills in writing though comments, review and particularly con-crit. You are expected to give beta as well as receive it. At this time, there are no guidelines for how much you have to give to receive - so use fair judgment (A good goal would be to contribute by posting in 100's, WIP or Resources and posting con-crit or comment on someone elses work once per month). Please read additional threads about beta and con-crit.
As a new member, you will be able to modify, delete and reorder your own posts, but you will not be able to moderate your board (delete and reorder other's posts) until after you become a Senior Member (over 300 posts). Members who post over 300 posts, and have a board in WIP and/or Daily 100, will be granted status of Workshop Writer and be able to modify their own boards without assistance. They also become staff members at that time, with the ability to participate in the Original Fiction board and the ability to see members that log in as 'invisible'.
Members who join, participate and then, for whatever reason, become inactive, will be disabled after thirty (30) days of inactivity. There are exceptions to this rule (vacations, illness, away at college, other circumstances by prior arrangement). Effort will be made to contact inactive members to see if they are interested in reactivating their membership. Members will need to email one of the Group Moderators for reactivation. If a member is still found to be inactive after sixty (60) days their membership will be deleted.
NO BOARDS WILL BE DELETED FROM WIP OR DAILY 100 without several attempts at obtaining the author's permission. They will be locked and set to invisible until the author can be contacted. If the author has not contacted the mods within 6 months, their boards will be considered abandoned and deleted. These members are free to rejoin at any time.
PLEASE BACK UP YOUR WORK. I can not state this strongly enough. We do not back up or archive anything here. The board is reliable, but we have had glitches and instances of losing boards or posts. PLEASE DO NOT RELY ON GOI AS A PRIMARY SOURCE OF ARCHIVING YOUR WRITING. We are not responsible for board hicoughs that cause posts to be deleted.
Flaming of any sort is grounds for immediate banishment, no reprieve. The mods can and will terminate threads that get out of hand, without further comment or any accusations of right or wrong.
The board owner (Lady A) reserves the right to modify the guidelines at any time. Please be sure to check for updates and changes regularly.
